CellSuc

New bio-polymers reinforced with nano-cellulose suitable for the production of green wood-based panels with improved properties

T1EDK-01413

with the co-funding of Greece and European Union

OBJECTIVE

Development of novel, bio-based nanocomposite polyester resins based on succinic acid. These resins will be reinforced with nanocellulose and used as adhesives for the production of composite wood products.

Polymers are a necessity of modern life, as they promote a sustainable society. However, their vast majority is produced from non-renewable resources creating environmental concerns.  So, in an attempt to foster the environment along with a sustainable society, attention is shifting towards bio-based raw materials and polymers. CellSuc comes to boost the effort for a greener wood composite industry with the development of novel polymeric materials, derived from renewable resources.

CHIMAR HELLAS S.A., an innovative company active internationally in the industrial research and development of adhesives and related chemicals and the teams of Professor Bikiaris and Professor Chrissafis, with the necessary experience and appropriate laboratory equipment for polyester  synthesis are working together to:

1. Develop novel polyester resins based on succinic acid and other biobased chemicals
2. Introduce nanocellulose to enhance the adhesive properties of the resins
3. Produce particleboards in lab scale simulating industrial practice

Project Coordination: CHIMAR HELLAS S.A. (Charles Marchesini)
Principal Investigator: Professor Dimitrios Bikiaris
