DAAD short term grant awarded to PhD candidate of BikiarisLab

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has selected the proposal of our PhD candidate Mr. Lazaros Papadopoulos for funding. Lazaros will receive a Short Term Grant to carry out part of his PhD thesis at Fraunhofer WKI, in Braunschweig, Germany under the supervision of Dr. Tobias Robert, an expert on biobased polyester resins for 3D printing applications.

Short Term Grants are given from the DAAD to excellently-qualified doctoral candidates and young academics to promote research projects within the context of doctoral programmes. These grants are carried out in coordination with an academic adviser in Germany, at institutions of higher education or at non-university research institutes in Germany.

Lazaros is a PhD candidate at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and he is a member of professor Bikiaris’ group. He works on the development of novel bio-based polymers, with a focus on furan-based and itaconic acid based polyesters. He received his Master’s degree in Polymer Chemistry and Technology from Aristotle University in February 2019. During his period with the group, Lazaros became a co-author of 30 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and produced 20 poster communications in International Scientific events. In 2020 he joined the COST Action FUR4Sustain as a member of Working Group 2 and from 2022 he participates in the BIOMAC Horizon 2020 project.

Part of the work that was performed in collaboration with Dr Robert has already been published in international scientific journals with high impact factors:
