Dr. Kyratzis Visits BikiarisLab: A Meeting of Minds in the Realm of Nanofibers and Materials Science

On October 11th, BikiarisLab had the distinct honor of hosting Dr. Ilias (Louis) Kyratzis, a Senior Principal Research Consultant and a leading figure in the fields of nanofibers, materials science, personal protective equipment (PPE), and electronic textiles. He was accompanied by Dr. Nicholas Kyratzis, Graduate Consultant at Matthews Steer Accountants and Advisors in Melbourne, Australia.

Dr. Kyratzis, internationally recognized as an expert in his areas of expertise, has a remarkable track record of success in both academia and industrial research. He currently leads the interfacial chemistry team in Metal Industries within the Manufacturing Business Unit, where his work has been nothing short of groundbreaking.


One of his most notable achievements is his pivotal role in establishing the Mask Testing Group, which stands as Australia's sole NATA accredited laboratory for surgical mask testing. This accomplishment extends Australia's sovereign capability and ensures the quality and safety of PPE, a mission critical in our current global landscape.


Furthermore, Dr. Kyratzis has been at the forefront of securing substantial funding for his projects, with over $24 million secured in the last five years. This funding has driven the innovation that BikiarisLab holds dear to its heart. Dr. Kyratzis is also closely involved with key agencies such as the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the National Measurement Institute (NMI), emphasizing the real-world impact of his work.


Adding to his impressive list of accolades, Dr. Kyratzis was a finalist in the Eureka Prize in 2019 for his significant contributions to defense science. This recognition highlights the importance of his work in safeguarding our nation and its interests.


With a publication record boasting approximately 71 publications, 5 patents, and 12 conference presentations (including 4 invited talks over the past 5 years), Dr. Kyratzis has made a lasting impact on his field. His h-index of 30 speaks to the profound influence of his research, with over 2500 citations from peers and colleagues worldwide.
