Yesterday Professor Bikiaris visited the facilities of Helios Resins, in Domžale, Slovenia.
Helios Resins is a business unit of the Helios Group producing the highest quality liquid resins for advanced coating and composite manufacturers globally. Today, Helios Resins produces over 60,000 tons of liquid resins annually, including coating resins, composite resins, and polyester polyols for PU flexible foams. Helios participates in the Fur4Sustain COST action, where Prof. Bikiaris acts as a working group leader. Prof. Bikiaris met with Dr Martin Ocepek, head of the synthetic resins R&D and they brainstormed about the potential applications of biobased FDCA-derived monomers and polymers in the coatings industry. Finally, the objectives of the H2020 BIOMAC project, which is coordinated by Prof. Bikiaris were disseminated to Helios, and the potential of Helios benefiting from the services offered by the BIOMAC open innovation test bed was discussed.
