PROSOTHERMA

Pre-insulated multi-layered pipes for heating-cooling systems exhibiting high thermal insulation and dimensional stability

T1EDK-02575

with the co-funding of Greece and European Union

OBJECTIVE

Production of innovative, high added value pre-insulated multilayered pipes, with minimal energy losses, high mechanical properties and prolonged lifetime due to high dimensional stability.

Heating and cooling systems are responsible for the majority of everyday luxuries of a house. The main element in heating-cooling systems is the piping network. Conventional pipes with a polyurethane layers or polypropylene-polyethylene pipes containing glass fibers, lack in mechanical properties. It is a common observation the construction of the pipes during winter and their expansion during summer.  This dimensional instability consequently results to frequent cracks.

Interplast, a company manufacturing plastic pipes and fittings for use in water supply, heating and sewerage systems, covering a broad range of applications, along with Professor Bikiaris' team, with great experience in polymeric materials and the incorporation of various nanofillers to enhance their properties, are in collaboration aiming to prepare multilayered pipes with:

- Improved mechanical properties
- Minimal energy losses
- High dimensional stability
- Prolonged lifetime
