On November 8, 2023, Lazaros Papadopoulos achieved a significant academic milestone by successfully defending his PhD thesis at BikiarisLab. He has been a dedicated member of the research community and has made notable contributions in the field of biobased polymers, earning accolades and recognition along his journey.
Lazaros began his academic journey at BikiarisLab during his undergraduate years, focusing on biobased thermoplastic polyesters. His early research laid the foundation for a career dedicated to sustainable materials.
In his master's thesis, Lazaros explored biobased adhesive resins based on succinic acid, showcasing his passion for environmentally friendly solutions.
During his PhD, Lazaros accomplished notable achievements, including a scholarship from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) in Greece, a DAAD short-term grant, and an STSM (Short Term Scientific Mission) grant from the Fur4Sustain Cost action.
Lazaros's doctoral research, "Development of Biobased 3D Printable Polymeric Materials with Antibacterial Properties," was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Bikiaris and partly at Fraunhofer WKI in Braunschweig, Germany, under the guidance of Dr. Tobias Robert. He also had the opportunity to visit the lab of Prof. Marco Sangermano, a reputable scientist working in the field of Photopolymers, where he conducted specialized experiements. This work resulted in three publications in reputable journals:
"UV-Curing Additive Manufacturing of Bio-Based Thermosets: Effect of Diluent Concentration on Printing and Material Properties of Itaconic Acid-Based Materials" in ACS Omega 2023, 8, 34, 31009–31020.
"Bio-based Additive Manufacturing Materials: An In-Depth Structure-Property Relationship Study of UV-Curing Polyesters from Itaconic Acid," published in the European Polymer Journal 2023, 186, 111872.
"Straightforward Synthetic Protocol to Bio-Based Unsaturated Poly(Ester Amide)s from Itaconic Acid with Thixotropic Behavior," published in Polymers, 12(4), 980.
The defense of Lazaros's PhD thesis included respected international members on his examination committee, such as Dr. Tobias Robert from FH-WKI, Prof. Marco Sangermano from the University of Turin, and Prof. Nathanael Guigo from the University of Nice, further emphasizing the significance of the occasion.
Lazaros Papadopoulos has made substantial contributions with an impressive portfolio of 35 papers published in international scientific journals with impact factors, resulting in an h-index of 18. You can check his published work on Scopus.
Throughout his academic journey, Lazaros actively participated in various research projects, including CellSuc, Phresco, and Fur4Sustain, which enabled him to collaborate on sustainable materials.
As Lazaros Papadopoulos explores new opportunities in academia, he will continue to contribute to BikiarisLab as a postdoctoral researcher. His journey is an inspiration to aspiring scientists, and the scientific community anticipates his future contributions with great interest. Congratulations, Lazaros Papadopoulos, on your outstanding achievement and bright future!
