BikiarisLab at the 9th IUPAC International Conference on Green Chemistry

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

BikiarisLab participated in the 9th IUPAC International Conference on Green Chemistry, which took place in Athens, Greece, on 5th – 9th September 2022 at Zappeion Megaron.

Prof. Bikiaris gave keynote a oral presentation on Wednesday morning, with the title "European Sustainable Biobased Nanomaterials Community (BIOMAC): From biomass pretreatment for monomers and additives extraction to the synthesis of biobased composites".

Prof Bikiaris presenting the BIOMAC project.

To disseminate the results of PL2 of the BIOMAC project, Kyriazis Rekos presented the poster "Glucose hydrogenation/hydrogenolysis towards sugar alcohols over Pt/Ru catalysts supported on micro/mesoporous activated carbon" and prof. Triantafyllidis the poster "European Sustainable BIO-based nanoMAterials Community (BIOMAC)".

Our team, along with the team of prof. Triantafyllidis, had the opportunity to meet with other members of the BIOMAC consortium and help disseminate the project, as well as the FUR4Sustain COST action Chair and Vice Chair, Dr Andreia Sousa and Dr Nathanael Guigo.

From left to right: Eleftheria Xanthopoulou, Dr Alexandra Zamboulis, Prof. Dimitrios Bikiaris, Prof. Kostas Triantafyllidis, Dr Tobias Robert (FH-WKI), Emanuela Bellinetto (Politecnico di Milano), Lazaros Papadopoulos, Eleni Psochia, Kyriazis Rekos, Dr Antigoni Margellou.

Our team with Dr Andreia Sousa (FUR4Sustain action chair), Dr Nathanael Guigo (FUR4Sustain action vice chair) and Asoc. Prof. Fabio Arico.

Furthermore, we presented work performed in the context of our nationally funded projects.

Presented by Nina Maria Ainali

Investigating the structural and mechanical properties of innovative polypropylene/nanoadditive composites for heating/cooling pipe systems. Project PROSOTHERMA

Presented by Eleftheria Xanthopoulou

Our PhD students Eleftheria, Lazaros and Nina presented part of their results of their ongoing thesis.

Towards sustainability: Exploring the properties of novel vanillic acid-based polyesters. Supported by FUR4Sustain COST action.

Presented by Eleftheria Xanthopoulou

Presented by Lazaros Papadopoulos

Impact of UV-B Exposure on Physicochemical Properties of Poly(ethylene terephthalate): On the way to microplastics formation. Funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI)

Presented by Nina Maria Ainali

The team supported the poster presentations of work from the thesis of PhD students Eirini Nakiou (Synthesis and properties of poly(glycerol pimelate), a hyperbranched polyester for ocular drug delivery) and Georgia Michailidou (Study of the modification of chitosan structure with 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol for enhanced antioxidant activity, funded by the National Foundation of Scholarships IKY).

We want to thank the organizing committee and especially prof. Triantafyllidis, Chair of the 9th ICGC, for the excellent organization and for the great hospitality!
